2010 SUMMER INSTITUTE

Date
Wednesday, October 13th – Saturday, October 16th, 2010 (with departures on Sunday, October 17th).

This year's program theme is Money and Change.

As inheritors of financial wealth, money has changed our lives in many ways – both positive and negative. Money is also one of the tools we have to make changes in our lives and the lives of others.

Change is a constant in our lives. Sometimes it happens to us or around us – death, inheritance, loss of investment value, opportunities – and sometimes we choose to create it by choice – hiring or firing advisors, marrying, divorcing, or by changing ourselves by starting something new (a new activity to achieve a goal or give our lives meaning) or stopping something we no longer want in our lives (like drinking alcohol or complaining).

Join the Summer Institute community as together we explore:

This year’s Summer Institute is limited to 25 participants, with lots of time in smaller groups to provide a rich opportunity to deeply explore the issues of money and change in a relaxed and supportive environment. We also have fun together!

Our goal is for you to leave empowered to initiate the changes that will allow you to live a happy life, no matter what changes come your way.

Location
The 2010 Summer Institute will take place at Houghton House, at the Aspen Wye River Conference Center, in Queenstown, Maryland, which should be in full autumn glory in mid-October.

Aspen Wye River Conference Center is a peaceful and private retreat on 1,100 pastoral acres overlooking the Wye River on Maryland's Eastern Shore. The site was donated to The Aspen Institute by Mr. and Mrs. Houghton HouseArthur A. Houghton, Jr. in 1979. William Paca, a signee of the Declaration of Independence and third governor of Maryland, maintained his family estate here.

Houghton House, a stately Georgian mansion furnished in antiques, is surrounded by formal 18th-century gardens, and all guestrooms feature period furnishings, individual climate control, telephone with voice mail, desk/study area, televisions, and computer access. This lovely location for Summer Institute includes tennis, outdoor pool, game room, bikes to borrow, fitness center, volleyball, and championship croquet lawn, all of which you can enjoy when not in session.

Houghton House at Aspen Wye River Conference Center is less than an hour from BWI (Baltimore) Airport, 70 miles from Washington, D.C., and 150 miles from Philadelphia. The Summer Institute will have exclusive use of the Houghton House meeting and dining facilities, guaranteeing a distraction-free experience for all attendees.
